Welcome

Hesket Kennels & Cattery is a family-run boarding kennel & cattery.

Located off the A6 between Carlisle and Penrith, we offer short and long term boarding for dogs, specialising in hounds & gundog types.

Due to overwhelming demand for our services, we currently have very limited space to register new clients for kennel spaces.

We are not taking on new cats at this time.

Prices

We charge for each day, including the days of arrival and departure. This means that an overnight stay will be charged at two days.

You can pick up and drop off at any time between 9am and 12am, and 1pm and 5pm. We are open seven days a week except for Christmas Day & Boxing Day.

Out of hours by arrangement only, and a fee may be charged.

Registration

If you are looking to register as a new dog client, then please get in touch on the details below, either by email or WhatsApp/SMS/iMessage.

If you ring us, please leave a brief message with the dates that you are looking for and the type of dog you’re looking to board with us - we won’t return calls without a message.

Once we register a you as a new client, we will arrange to meet the you + dog for a half-day trial, and then an overnight stay. This is free, as it allows us to make sure that a) we’re right for the dog and b) the dog is right for us. Not all dogs do well in all kennels and sometimes this may only become apparent once they’re left for the first time.

The Small Print

Vaccinations

All animals must have completed their complete course of vaccinations at least two weeks prior to arrival. This includes ‘restarts’ after vaccinations have lapsed.

Payments

We take payment on departure. You can pay with cash, card (including Amex) or by bank transfer. The full amount is due on collection, and we will charge for each part of a calendar day for which a dog is on the premises, which means an overnight stay will be charged as two days.

Deposits, changes and cancellations

We do not take a deposit, nor do we charge for cancellations. We only ask that if you do need to make a change or cancel a booking that you tell us as soon as you know so that we can look to resell the space.

We do not charge to alter bookings but, again, we ask that you tell us as soon as possible.

We understand that in these uncertain times travel plans can go awry without notice. We only ask that you try to let us know as soon as possible if you find yourself stranded on an airfield in Ulaanbataar - please take our number & email address with you!

Where we feel that you have behaved unreasonably around cancellations and changes, we reserve the right to charge a deposit for future bookings. In exceptional circumstances we reserve the right to remove you from our books.

Medical treatment

We have a duty per s9(2)(e) Animal Welfare Act 2006 to ensure that animals under our care are protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease.

While we will always make best efforts to contact owners before seeking veterinary treatment, we will not delay treatment to do so. The cost will be borne by the owner. We will either pass on the cost in your final bill, or we will ask the vet to invoice directly.

Where it is not practicable to contact your preferred vet we will use our family vets at Coomara, in Carlisle.

We do not receive a referral fee from any practice.

CCTV

CCTV operates on these premises for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
